Why Study Taekwondo?
The Tenants of Taekwondo are characteristics that Taekwondo students must learn and are expected to incorporate into their daily lives. The tenets serve as a reminder that we are striving to improve ourselves on both a physical and intellectual level. These include:
• Indomitable Spirit
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art that teaches more than self-defense and systematic physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation and stands among the official games in the Olympics.
This martial art is characterized by dynamic strikes, including jumping and spinning kicks, powerful and varied hand movements, all combined with evasive footwork/mobility.
While favoring fast powerful kicking, Taekwondo training is well-rounded and involves learning blocks, punches, open-handed strikes, sweeps & takedowns, throws, and joint locks.
